Al Welshans has been practicing law for over thirty-one (31) years. Al has represented clients in the state and federal courts throughout Mississippi and federal district courts around the United States including consolidated cases before the federal court’s multidistrict litigation panel. Al’s practice is concentrated on personal injury, wrongful death, truck accident cases, insurance bad faith litigation, estate planning and estate litigation. His cases have been featured in the national and local news including the CBS Evening News, the Commercial Appeal, and local newspapers.
Al was born and raised on a farm in the Mississippi Delta. He worked in his father’s rice and soybean fields from the time he was eight (8) years old until he graduated from college. This experience prepared him for hard work throughout his life.
Al is a 1988 cum laude graduate of Mississippi State University where he obtained a Bachelor of Professional Accountancy. After obtaining his undergraduate degree, Al worked for Ernst & Whinney (now Ernst & Young) and a regional public accounting firm before returning to law school. He routinely uses his accounting education and training as an auditor in complex insurance litigation representing individuals, governmental entities and estates.
Al graduated from the University of Mississippi School of Law in 1993. While in law school, he served on the Editorial Committee of the Moot Court Board and was selected as a member of The National Order of Barristers for exceptional skill in trial advocacy, oral argument and brief writing.
Al is a former partner in Smith Phillips’ Batesville and Hernando offices and the former managing partner for Welshans Law Firm, PLLC and Welshans & Still Law Firm, PLLC.
Al is married to Suzanne Farris Welshans. The Welshans have five (5) children and are active members of the Hernando Methodist Church where they spearhead the outreach ministry to The Baddour Center and are members of the Serve Committee.
Al has previously served on several local organizations, including as a coach for South Panola High School Mock Trial Team, Coach for Onward & Upward Basketball, a deacon for the First Presbyterian Church of Batesville, Mississippi, and a member of the Church Council for the United Methodist Church of Hernando, Mississippi, now the Hernando Methodist Church.
