Paul Scott is a life-long resident of DeSoto County, Mississippi, and began his law practice in Hernando in 1981, after his graduation from the University of Mississippi School of Law. Paul’s practice is concentrated on representing property owners in eminent domain cases. He has successfully represented property owners in cases involving acquisitions for road and highway construction, airport expansions, natural gas transmission pipelines, power line construction and other uses across the State of Mississippi. In addition to his eminent domain practice, Paul is actively engaged in litigation of personal injury and wrongful death and truck accident cases on behalf of injured victims and the families of wrongful death victims.
Paul is the Mississippi member of Owners’ Counsel of America, a national organization of experienced attorneys from each state dedicated to representing private property owners in eminent domain, inverse condemnation, and other property rights matters. He has been included in Best Lawyers in America every year since 2007 in the field of condemnation law. Paul has presented programs on numerous topics related to eminent domain at seminars across the country.
Paul is a life member and past president of the Mississippi Association for Justice and a Fellow on the Mississippi Bar Foundation. He holds an AV Pre-eminent rating by the Martindale Hubbell peer review rating system.
Paul is married to Susan Averett Scott. The Scotts are active members of Getwell Church. The have two adult daughters and three wonderful grandchildren. Paul has previously served on the boards of several local organizations, including the DeSoto Arts Council, Historic DeSoto Museum and Kudzu Playhouse.
